Guns have been a big problem in the U.S for a long time. This goes back to the Revolutionary War where they used guns to kill their enemy. Over time gun use has become excessive and used in negative ways. There are very lenient laws about gun use in America and that does not help the negative ways people use guns. About 2 out of 5 guns are sold without a background check. In addition, 3 out of 4 people have guns in the U.S and use them at their advantage. Mass shootings have been a problem since people have easy access to guns. In 2016, 11,000 people died due to firearms and mass shootings. This needs to be stopped and the government has to create stricter laws about gun control.
COMPARE
There is a large difference between gun violence in the United Sates, and gun violence in other countries. The U.S. has the highest population of guns in the world. Other countries, like Canada, have stricter laws about owning guns and have very little violence involving guns. America has a 25% higher homicide rate by the use of guns than other countries. Guns are extremely easy to access and that causes thousands of people to die a year. Gun control is the biggest debate in our country today. The United States needs to reflect on other countries and stop this violence.
AFFECTS LIVES
Gun violence affects people in a negative way. When people own guns they sometimes kill siblings, fathers, and mothers, of families. This makes the family grieve and make parents afraid to let their own kids go out alone. They are afraid that the same thing is going to happen to their own children. The amount of guns we have in our country makes people scared and not feel comfortable in their own society. Based on the statistics, 3 out of 4 people have guns which means most people have guns in your community.
Guns can be used in a harmful way, but some people use guns for safety precautions, their job, hunting, ect. A test shown in 2013 states that up to 48% of gun owners use their guns only for safety reasons. Although guns can be dangerous to our country, it is our second amendment to have the right to bear arms. The second largest reason for gun ownership is hunting. 32% of gun owners use their guns for this reason. The other 20% of gun owners use their guns for target shooting, collecting guns, and other reasons.
